REMODEL!!

When we started coming up with ideas of how to expand our saltwater fish hobby we thought having a room-dividing tank would be nice.  But now that I see what it might be like, I am positive this is not what we had in mind.

But in order to get this stone (which looks very green, but I promise it is not)

on these cabinets

and this couch

and this tank and all the plumbing

inside this room,

we had to move the fish tank to the middle of what was our formal living room.

I am not a sane person at the moment, but some day I will be able to enjoy these again.

This is a before photo of the original 55-gallon saltwater fish tank in the room. This was taken 09/26/08.

And this is a dream  --  thanks Sea World!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful February, 2010.  I will keep my fingers crossed that my house is in order sometime before the end of March, 2010, and that I regain my sanity.

The room is coming quite along.

I think this translates to:  The room is coming along quite nicely.

A has told me several times this week, the room is coming quite along.  She can't wait to see fish swimming in the tank and Disney channel playing on the big screen TV.

I can't wait either.  Here are some photos of the progress of the room.

This is the new Bose system for the big screen.

The refugium will sit just under the blue tape line.

The display tank (260 gallons) will sit here.

The sump will sit here underneath the display tank.

The calcium reactor sits underneath the refugium.

We are waiting on the granite top with a rolled edge to be cut.  The granite will sit on top of the cabinets and then we can put the tank in.  T says next weekend the tank will go in.

No time for quilitng this week, so no pictures in that department.

Valentine

Happy Valentines Day!!

These pictures were taken last year in March.  The quilt wasn't finished for Valentine's Day.  I forgot to get it out for display for this month.  I remembered it today.

Happy Heart Day!!

Remodel pictures

Here are the pictures of the progress of the remodel.  Sorry, no before pictures.  You can find references to some of these pictures in my previous post also.
The room without a wall - the pink room - at least we had insulation.

The room with the new wall.  We decided to put up a layer of sound proofing.  A's room is on the other side of the wall.  With the new big screen TV and surround sound we thought we should soundproof it a little.

The new paint.

The new tile for the new room.

The crate of stone tile that sits in the garage warming up.

A new quilt that I started and worked on last weekend (not a good picture).

The new backerboard for the new stone tile that sits in the garage.

Remodel update

The stone tile is in the garage warming up.  I knew everyone was concerned that the stone tile was not going to be warm before installation.

More pictures were taken, but I am out of time, I will post pics later.

February 2010, remodel chaos, new resume

I am getting older, I have deadlines, I have lost track of time,  it'll be here before you know it -- all those things my elders told me would happen has happened.  Can you believe that it is already February?  I thought I stated in a previous post that things go back to normal and time slows down after the holidays.

We are plugging along at remodeling the "fish room/tv room".  People come and go, inside and outside, under the house, up in the attic, running wires, making plumbing, all the things we need to finish the "project".  Every time I think things are on schedule, things are delayed.  The plumber needs one more day, the electrician needs to pull a new wire, the painter needs to do a touch-up, T decides he doesn't want carpet, we have to pick a tile that goes with the the new paint and the new couch.  The big screen TV might be is too big, the fish tank is going to be in the way of the TV, let's move the fish tank here and the TV over on that wall, the couch will must sit perfectly centered in front of the tv, etc, etc, etc . . .

The new cabinets are in the garage, my car is not.  (My car doesn't like the cold and snow any more than I do.)  The fish tank stand is in the garage, now tile is going to be delivered and put in the garage so that it can warm up before it is laid in the room.  It has to warm up?  Yes, it has to warm up.  It has been outside in the frozen snow at the stone place down the street.  Thank goodness the stone/tile was in stock so as not to have another delay.

The fish tank itself is in an enclosed trailer parked in front of the garage.  This is the tank we special ordered in June of last year and picked up in California on our vacation last summer.

Meanwhile I work two part-time jobs (paralegal and administrative assistant to T at the accounting firm), A goes to gymnastics three times a week (chauffeur), I like to quilt in my spare time (quilter), (maid) laundry is getting out of hand because towels line the floor where the construction guys walk through the house . . . I think I can now add general contractor to my resume.

OH MY GOSH!!

I never thought a simple remodel could be so much work.  Plans change, ideas get bigger and bigger.  The schedule for the completion might be March.
