VACATION

Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Tortola, Antigua, Dominica, Barbados and back to Puerto Rico.

Just a few pictures . . .

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Our hotel was the Gran Melia, a very beautiful, tropical paradise.

The beach at our hotel was quiet and private.

The flowers were beautiful.

La Mina Falls in the El Yenque Rain Forest - the only rain forest in the US National Forest System.

Once on the cruise, we stopped at St. Thomas and snorkeled in Turtle Cove, had lunch on a private beach and saw beautiful places.

The next day, in Tortola, we swam and snorkeled in The Baths at Virgin Gorda and Devil's Bay Beach.

Then Antigua, more fun in the sun with stingrays.

Then Dominca, no beaches, just rocks, but snorkeling at the Champagne Reef in Scott's Head was awesome.

That evening we watched a beautiful sunset.

Then to Barbados to swim with the turtles

and a puffer fish.

FUN, FUN, FUN!!

Top finished

The top is finished.  This is from the book, "Twist-and-Turn Bargello", by Eileen Wright.  I had a wonderful teacher help me with this.  It all started in September.  I hope to have it complete by March 2012 for a show at the local library.

a new project

This one is going to be a tedious, meticulous, teeth-grinding project.  Picking the colors was a project in itself.  This is what I selected in the beginning.

The 10 light. From left to right, number 3 was replaced.

The 10 dark. From right to left, number 5 was replaced. (I know it's backwards.)

Now I have this, left to right, number 1 to 10, with new number 3.

And now this, left to right, number 11 to 20.  (I found a new number 11, took out old number 15.)

Then came this, cutting two inch strips.

Then this, sub-cuts, 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20.

Then three strips of assembled color (not sewn).

I worked on assembling the next rows, sewing the three above, now my teeth hurt.  I am off to bed.  Tomorrow is a holiday, I will try more then.

Two posts in one

First post:  quilt/fabric/idea.

I took this (two Moda Hometown Jelly Rolls),

spread them out and looked at all the pretty colors,

sewed them together in pairs,

and I hope to have a hexagon Merry-Go-Round quilt soon.

Second:  Wyoming Whiskey tour.

Kirby, Wyoming:  Population:  57

It goes from this

to this

to this (this tall copper tower is named Betsy)

 to this  (160 proof)

into these barrels in the storage warehouse

and they sit here until they are "good and ready".

baby boy minky

My neighbor is having a boy tomorrow.  She said she likes lime green and gray.  I was at the local quilt store a few weeks ago and they were having a "crazy days sale" and this is what I found--no gray but definitely lime green minky.  I hope she likes it.

I was just wondering . . .

I have 120 blogs in my favorites list that I look at on a regular basis.  Is that too much?

summer activities

Basque Parade, dragonfly, Rodeo Parade, motorcycles, an extra large skunk and flowers - we have seen it all this summer.

This covers most of July and the first week of August.
