Long projects or long process?

This is the Flying Free pattern I have been working on for my sister.  Her home is decorated Americana and I thought this might go with her decor.  If I don't hurry and finish it she will have changed the decor.  She is not afraid to paint, change and redocorate in one weekend.  These are a few pictures I took of the process (slow progress) of this project.  First, I sewed all these squares together, then cut most of the square off to make a wave pattern.  There is alot of waste in this project, but I now have a bigger stash.

This shows the detail of the red and white fabrics I picked.  And I'm fairly sure this is not the exact cut to make.  I goofed on this one.

The stars were the hard part.  I couldn't decide on which star to use.  I didn't use the star in the Flying Free pattern.  I couldn't make myself do them, they didn't look like stars--more points and more triangles.  I was afraid of picking the wrong shape (too pointy or too perfect), or a shape that didn't go with the Americana theme.  Last weekend I used a "Steam-a-Seam" product and ironed them to the blue fabric then stitched, zigzag stitch, around each star.

And today I pin basted.  I want to sew a zigzag pattern in the white stripes and follow through the blue stripes.  I planned ahead, I hope, not stitch over the stars.  It will be a few days before I can finish this long project/process.

This has been in the works since last summer.  My sister's birthday is in July.  It was not complete last July.  Then Christmas came and went and it is still not complete.

Hopefully this will be my first UFO (unfinished object) to be finished soon and crossed off the list of things (projects) to do this year.

January, pictures of 2009

Well, it has been a while. . .

January is here and almost gone.  I see that I have not been here to write in a few weeks.  I spend most of my time looking at and reading other blogs and working.  January has been a slow blogging month for several of the blogs I visit.

Not much happens in January: back to work, finish up the holidays, look back at what happened in  2009...

Our year was full of activites:   We watched A at gymnastics three times a week.
We dyed eggs for Easter.
A reads most every evening. We have beautiful mountains.
We swim in the summer.
We paint, build and fly RC airplanes.
We watch wildlife in our back yard.

We had snow in June.

We took a summer vacation to Las Vegas.

We visit friends in Phoenix, AZ.  So glad they have a pool!!
T and I went to CA.  T took a walk on the beach.
T and I drove in downtown LA and saw this spectacular hotel.
We drove through the Painted Desert.

We had our Rodeo Parade, dress up like clowns and walk down Main Street on our hands.
We had our annual pack trip, we fish all day.
We enjoyed the beautiful Big Horn Mountains.

We celebrated Christmas.

That's it in a nutshell -- that was 2009.
